School Commissioners.
The Otago Schools Commissioners held their monthly meeting on Tuesday in the rooms, Colonial Bank Buildings, There were present —Messrs J. P. Maitland (chairman), A. C. Begg, W. H. Pearson, and Hon. W. H. Reynolds. The Southland Education Board applied for 10 acres of section 12, block I, Wendonside, for a school site, which was granted. Mesarß Moffit and Vial applied for the lease of five acres at Waikaia, which the Board declined to grant, as the area was on tbe recreation reserve. Mr Mouat appeared on behalf of certain Waikaia settlers to object to the application. John Cooper applied for a lease of five acres of section 8, block 111, Wendon, for coalmining purposes.— lt was decided to sell the seven years' leaße of the area by auction, subject to payment of survey fees. The Southland County Council wrote asking the Commissioners to grant a sum of money to be expended on the Wyndbam-Upper Wyndham Valley road.— The Commissioners decided to reply regretting they had no power to comply with the request. A letter was received from Mr J. S. f Royds, reporting the result of sale of leases at Invercargill on the 28th ult., which realised a total annual r/mtftl of £224 10s. An application by James Hamilton to be relieved of his deferred-payment Bection at Hokonui, with compensation for improvements, yi&s referred to the Southland Land Board. Tbe Secretary reported the result of the
recent sale of leases at Gore, the rental realised being £169 23 per annum. A number of mortgages and transfers were assented to.
The Secretary reported that he had received applications for the lease of sections in Kaitangata and Port Molyneux, and that he had arranged for their sale at Balclutha on August 9. —The chairman and secretary were authorised to fix the upsets. Accounts amounting to £74 17s 3d were passed for payment, and other routine business was transacted.
