PORTOBELLO. (from our own correspondent)

July 10. Concert.— The Port Chalmers choir of the Presbyterian Church gave aSacred Concert hero in thechurch, in aid of the organ fund of the Portobello Presbyterian Church, last evening. The night was beauliful, beiDg turn out, indeed the church was literally crammed, clear moonlight, and, aa a consequence, there was a grand' turn-out, there being somewhere about 200 persons present. The singing wbb excellent, and the organ accompaniments were well rendered.

July 14. EHSCTHMJBBRiNa.— We are haying lively times here just now with the various candidates for Parliamentary honours, two out of three gentlemen who aspire to represent us in Wellington having addressed the people here— namely, Mr Hodge and Mr Larnach. Mr Wells visits Portobello to-morrow night, so that until we hear him we are not supposed to have made uo our minds as to who shall have our support. However, it is almost Bafe to predict that Mr Larnach will have the greatest number of votes of the " freo and independent" electors of Portobello ; and it can hardly be said that very much - real interest i 3 taken in the matter. We bave ot course our own share of the bad times, but I suppose we will just have to bear it like other parts of the colony. Ido not suppose it matters much who we return to Parliament, although we have the honour of having an ex-member of tee Government as one of our candidates.

Wkathzr —The weather for some time bark has very good— in fact more like summer than winter. Indeed one would almost think that the seasons have changed, and that Bummer is coming now to make up for the bad weather we had during the past season.

Church Macterb —At last a ripple of the great wave of revivalism wrought by the Salvation Army has reached Portobello, as was instanced in the extraordinary attendance at the Presbyterian Church yesterday, the building being crowded by expectant worshippers, all the world and bis wife and bairns being there to bear the " kist o' whistles " played for the first time on Sunday in this district.
