THE NOMINATIONS. '

The following nominations were made throughout the Colony on Tuesday :— OTAGO. DUNEDIN SOUTH.

Several hundred people assembled in front of Winter's Store, Stafford Btreet, at the nomination hour. The Deputy Returning-officer read the writ, a Mr Guthrib nominated Mr H. S. Pish, jun. as the representative of the district. The speaker had supported him in his candidature three years ago, and had had no reason whatever to alter his opinions since th*t time. Mr Gkokqb Elbon, sen. seconded the nomination. Mr J. Gray had a candidato to propose who, he had no doubt occupied as high a position as Mr Fish. If Mr Fiah during hia representation of the district had always discharged his duties in a proper and fit manner there would probably ha.v ( e been no opposition Ho nominated Mr James Gore. Mr J. A. Ciiaphan seconded the nomination. On a Show of handa being taken, the Beturningofficer declared the numbera as— Fish, T8 ; Gore, 6S>. Mr Gokk : Things are not always what they seem. I believe the ballot-box will declare a different »:buH, and I shall demand a poll.

DUNFPIN OKNTRAL. The nomination took place at the GarriEon Hall, where about 150 persons were preeent. The following candidates were nominated :— Thomas BiacUen, proposed by Mark Sinclair, and seconded by Thomas Culling. James Benn 8.-Bradshaw, proposed by William Stjthbrdand, and seconded by William Duthib. James Gordon Stuarts Grant, proposed by James Grogan, and seconded by James Murdoch. The Bhowof hands resulted as follows: -Bracken,

22 ; Bradshaw, 11 ; Grant, 10. Mr Grant demanded a poll.
