MR JAMES GREEN AT SEACLIFF.
- . Mr James Green addressed a well-attended meeting of electors at the Bchoolhouse, Seacliff, on Thursday evening ; Mr Crawford iv the chair. Mr Green gave his reasons for supporting t the late Government, as also those for opposing the return of a majority pledged only to resist any Government formed by Major Atkinson, without in any way indicating which of the numerous leaders they would follow. In answer to questions he said he declined to give his opinion as to why Messrs Stout, Brad, sbaw, and Duncan held a different opinion, to his own in regard to the cancellation of Borthwick's -and Hertslet's licenses. He had attended to every ma%r b.yougiit under his notice that wsa calculated to forward the interest of that part of the district. He had not succeeded in getting the Hon. Minister of [Public Works' to stop-the express at Seacliff. I He would, if returned, endeavour to get' the telegraph-office now only used by the Railway Department constituted, a public office.— Mr .Cassey* moved aad Mr Dumars seconded— " That q, vote of thankß be' accorded for the address, and that this' meeting considers Mr Green the' most fit 'and proper person to :' represent this' district."— Mr Russell proposed I and it was seconded—" That a! vote of thanks ' only be accorded to Mr Green for bis address." —file motion was carried, many refraining from voting eithe'rway. — Mr Green acknowledged the compliment with feelings of gratitydfy and on i his motion a hearty vote of. thankß was given , to the cha'h?mari,
