It, howevtr, retards the ripening of the grain in the localities south of Dinftdin, causin" considerable anxiety to those interpi-ted there wlieat : The change in tbe railway tariff has had the effect of diminithing the week's transactions in Chrietchurch. The market, on the vhole, may be characterised as hardly well opened. Oats are still in bare supply for shipment at Lyttelton at 2j 2<Vf.o b., for milling and Is lid to 2s Id for prime feed. In Otago and Southland the crop shows well, but from causes mentioned above is coming in very slowly, some orders on Australian account having to go past from absence of stocks. Barley ia not so active in Christchurch, but tho quantity eomint; forward is large ; the quality, however, in not up to £he mark, and values have eased, and for good average quality 3s (Od to 4a, f.o.b , is the current quotation, with tendency to lower values Grass Seed : Cocksfoot is in good demand, but ehort supply of prime haa been received; quotations 36d to 4d, f.o.b.
