Mr A. A. O'Donnell's challenge to ride any bicyclist in the Colony in a match of three distances has been accepted by Mr Mackenzie, ex-champion of the Xorth of Scotland. The parties met at Wain's Hotel on Friday evening, and an agreement for a match of one, threo, and five miles was drawn up. The stakes were fixed at £25 a side, and a deposit of £10 was made by each rider. The match will probably take place about the Ist of March .next. Caledonian sports were held at Riversdale, beyond Gore, on Tuesday, 29th ult., at which Donald Dinnie was present. He won every event on the programme — viz., throwing the light hammer, Cumberland wrestling, putting the light stone, throwing the heavy hammer, putting the heavy stone, Scotch wrestling, and throwing the 561b weight, In the evening Dinnie gave an entertainment, where he met his match at a novel feafc called " pulling the swingletrees." A man named Currie defied all his efforts to pull him off the floor, and was declared the winner amid much applause, and to the evident chagrin of Dinnie. The champion athlete is to appear at games in Christchurch on the 16th inst., and is there expected to. wrestle with Hudson and Robertson.
