The more wo live more brief appears Our life's i-uc eedii g s ages ; The diys to childhood see ■■ almost years,
Ami year» like pas-inij ages. The gladsome current of our youth Ere p&39ion yec disorders, Steals, lingering like a river smooth, Along its gras»y borders. But when the careworn cheek grows wan, And Sorrow's shafts fly thicker, Ye stars chat measure life to man, Why seem 3 our courses quicktr? When joys have lost their bio am and breath, And life itself is vapid, Why, a3 we r e ' e h tklo Falls of Death, Should its tides then feel more r^pid ? It may be btran <c, but who wou'd change Time's conr.-e to t-lowtr speeding, When oi.e by one our friends hnv* gone, And left our bosoms bleeding? Heaven gives our years of fading strength Inderunif ing fleetneps, And those of j«ulh a M'eiuinp: length, Proportioned to their Mveetneaa.
