THE DUNEDIN CUP,

In accordance with my annual custom, I now commence a list of all the performances of the horses which remain in the Dunedin Cup. They are made up to date, and the list should therefore be of service to persons taking an interest in the race. WELCOME JACK (4 yrs, 9st 71b). 1881-2. Geraldine. — Won R.C. Handicap (Bst 111b), beating six others ; won Cup (9st 2lb), beating Taiaroa (7st 51b), the Poet (7st 31b), and three others.

Canterbury Spring.— Won N.Z. Cup (Bst 91b), beating Nonsense (7st 121b), Tim Whiffler (7st 101b), and nine others. Ashburton Spring.— Won Cup (9st 61b), beating Violin (6ot 51b), the Poet (6st 121b), and five others.

CHEVIOT (4 yrs, 9at 51b.) 1882-3.

Canterbury Spring. — Won Derby, beating Nonsense, Leos, and Minerva ; sacond in Cup (w.f.a.), won by Sir Modred ; second in Christchurch Plate (Bst), won by Sir Modred 9st 111b).

Canterbury Autumn. — Unplaced in Free Handicap (Bst 101b), won by Siesta (7st 121b).

1883-4. Canterbury Spring. — Unplaced in New Zealand Cup (Bst 91b), won by Tasman (Bst 91b), Nonsense (7st 121b) second, Tim Whiffler (7st 101b) third. Canterbury Summer. — Won Midsummer Handicap (Bst 81b), beating Taiaroa (7st 41b), Lady Emma (Bst 6lb), and Emir Bey (7st 31b) ; won Craven Stakes (9st 71b), beating Siesta (Bst 101b) and three others. MATA (aged, Bst 121b). 1877-8.

Canterbury Spring. — Won J.C. Handicap (6st 31b), Ariel (Bst 61b) second, Danebury (Bst 71b) third ; third in Canterbury Cup (w.f.a.), won by Ariel, Trump Card second.

Dunedin Annual. — Won Dunedin Cup (7st 81b) after a dead heat with Sinking Fund (6st 101b), Templeton (9st 91b) third. Timaru.— Won Cup (Bst 31b), Chancellor (6st 101b) second, Templeton (9st 101b) third. Canterbury Autumn. — Third in Great Autumn Handicap (Bst 61b) to his stable companion Longlands (7st), Natator (7st 51b) second ; second in Flying Stakes (w.f.a.), won by Fishhook, Templeton third ; won Easter Handicap (9st), Longlands (7st 71b) second, Chancellor (6st 101b) third.

1879-80. Dunedin Autumn —Won Dunedin Cup (Bst 91b), beating nine others ; won Railway Plate (w.f.a.), beating Hilarious and Templeton ; walked over for Railway Plate (w.f.a.) after a dead-heat with Volunteer.

Canterbury Autumn. — Second in Autumn Handicap (9st 81b), won by Camballo (Bst) ; walked over for Epsom Stakes (w.f.a.) ; won Flying Stakes (w.f.a.) beating Le Loup. Timaru.— Won trial Stakes (w.f.a.) beating Hunnington ; won Flying Handicap (9st 7lb), beating two others ; won J.C. Handicap (lOst), beating Betrayer (Bst lib), Titania (7st 61b), and two others.

1880-1. Victoria Spring.— Unplaced in Melbourne Cup (Bst 21b), won by Grand Flaneur (6st 101b); unplaced in Royal Park Stakes (w.f.a.), won by progress ; won V.R.C. Handicap (Bst 71b), beating eight others. Adelaide Autumn.— Won Birthday Cup (9st 21b), beating 11 others ; won All-aged Stakes (w.f.a.), beating three others; won May Handicap (lOst 51b), beating nine others. Mata has not run since.
