HAVELOCK. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

December 4. Hospitaii Concert. — The concert in aid of the Hospital came tff on Thursday labt, and w.\s fibiilliant success The Good Tetnplarß' Hall (which wa ' given gratis) was densely packed, and the expectations formed were surpa-ssd by tho efforts of the choir, wnich numbered 40 voices, the majority bting vtry young children. Mr Brydono is to be congratulated on the success of his teaching, and it is to be hoped he will be as eminently successful at Tuapeka Mouth (where he has opened a claa«) as he ha 9 been in Waitihuna. Alter tho concert a dance was got up, admission to which on the part of gentlemen was 2a, and this, together with the sale of refreshments, in the shape of tea and cake, considerably augmented tho proceeds of the concert. Misses Mackenzie and Bruce canvassed the vicinity for piovisions, an i their appeal was liberally responded to by tho farmers and others, so tha'., on the evening of the concert an abundance of good things, whicn were retailed at a modeiato charge, was to the foro. In fact no means were spared to make the affair a iinanc al fuccchs. Though exception might bo taken to the sale of refreshments, we must bear in mind that the object in view was a laudable one, and excused a good deal. Money was wanted, and the promoters must bo congratulated on effecting their object, the sum total realised being about £40.

Coumy Affairs.— Again Mr Oudaille (member for Waitahuna) ha-> had the honour of being eh ctsd chairman of t.he Ouumy Council, and by a ltvrge majority, notwithstanding tho few who deemed themselves wdl IWed to peiiorm the arduous duties in connection thero.-ith, tho salary, of course, being quite a minor consideration. The fact of Mr Oud.ville being elected twice in succession speaks volumes for that sretitlemaij'tj businesw capacity. "He is, without doubt, eminently fitted for the position, a d his past administration has on tbe whole given satisfaction to rattetpbyerß and memtfere alike.
