THE PANAMA CANAL.
A new issue of obligations of the. Panama Canal will probably take place. A New York Herald Pans dispatch ot June 2-lth says : " Thi" concern does not progress very rapidly. Although it was secured two years ago, tho trundle-* are not vet begun. De Lesseps' son informs us that he has 700 workmen on the spot, and that there are not more than 3 per cent, of the men sick He asserts the Company intends beginning trenching, &c, with the intention of tei urinating the whole work in five years— the |jgiven time. The Company is spending at present 2,750,000 francs per month. The tiist two years will have swallowed up 60,000,000 francs, without reckoning 600,000,000 francs for trenohingmachinus. It is estimated 500,000,000 or 000,000,000 francs will be required in order to finish the enterprise.
