It has been decided that the Marquis of Lome shall succeed Lord Ripon as Governorgeneral of India. The English Government have decided not to enforce the quarantine regulations in consequence of the spread of cholera in Egypt. , The scare caused by the outbreak of cholera in Egypt is abating, and the English mails will again be landed at Biindisias usual.
On July 16 the Government finally decided to reject the terms submitted by M. de Lesseps in connection with the proposed construction of a second Suez canal.
Sir J. Vogel, in a letter to The Times, urges England to offer a certain sum of money for the canal, and compel the promoters to accept it.
It is rumoured that Mr Childevs intends to resign his office as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
Lord Ripon, Governor-general of India, has given a denial to the report that he intends shortly to resign.
