Captain Glazebrook, of the barque Alastor, was presented on raturJay with a massive elect io-plated salver bearing a suitable inscription, from a family who were passengers with him from London to Otago, in appreciation i f the unwearied attention and kindness he displayed towards them.
The ketch Kestrel, that got aground on the breakwater on Friday (saya the Ohristchurch Press), was towed off by the tug Lyttelton on Saturday afternoon, after bosh the steam launches (Lyte. ton and Waiwera) had tugged their utmost: at her fruitlessly. The steam tug towed her across to Peacock's Jetty, the vessel lying on her beam ends. Yesterday Mr M'lntosh, the owner, had succeeded in getting her "on the hard," close in te the breastwork, between Peacock's Jetty aud the Tunnel-mouth Whaif, and iv righting her once more. Htr timbers are said to have suffered very slightly, but the planking on one of her rides is reported to bo badly broken. The damage she has sustained is by no mean* so extensive or serious as had beeu feared. With reference to thia vessel we are requested to state that this is not the Kestrel owned by the Dunedin Iron and Wooiware Company. Their vessel is at present loading at Ow.ike lor Timaru.
The brig John Wesley returned to pott on the 1 5th ast after cruising amongst the South cea islands for a period of five months.
