HUNTING.

The Otago Hounds met at Brockville, Halfway Bush, on Saturday, and the sportsmen who attended — about 35 in number — experienced a run equal in enjoyment to any which has taken place during the season, and one which also was free from any mishaps. The district road was largely patronised by onlookers, both male and female, who evidently appreciated the sport almost as much as those who took a more active part in it. The country chosen was dotted with numerous stone walls and gorse hedges, but these offered little hindrance to the huntsmen and their steeds. The "runs" wore accomplished in very good time. The hounds were started in a paddock belonging to the City Butchery Company, and the "kill " took plac'o on property belonging to 'Mr M'Gill, a distance of about the same extent as is usually dragged. After an interval for rest and refreshment,

the homeward journey was commenced, and terminated in the field from which the original start was made. During the afternoon several spills occurred, one of the unlucky horsemen being the huntsman himself, Mr Poole. He, however, sustained no injuries further than a good shaking. Among those gentlemen who were prominent were the fol-lowing-.—Messrs Petrie, M.H., on Turk; Poole, huntsman, on Tichborne ; Stronach, jun., on Blush Rose; O'Connor on Robin Hood, Smith on Gang Awa 1 , Taggait on Shillelah, and Cotton on Wildboy. The hounds meet next Saturday on the property belonging to Acting-Judge Harvey at Seaview. To-day they were to go North by the express 38 fa* as Ashburton, where two runs are to t ke place under the direction of Mr Saunder 1 - the harriers returning on Friday. Next week x / is probable that a meet will be arranged al Waikouaiti.
