April 23rd.
Soireb. — The annual congregational Boiree of tho Presbyterian Ctmrch at West Taicri was held on on Friday evening last. The attendance was largo, and ample justice was dono by all present to a substantial tea provided by several of tho ladies belonging to tho congregation, after tho tables had been cleared, tho Chairman (the Key. Mr Kirkland) introduced the different speak o h of tho evening, also reading apologies from several who were unavoidably absent. Mr Gilbort Buchanan (the treasurer) road the financial report for the current jear, showing the tho congregati n to be financially in a prosperous! condition. Addresses wero delivered during tho evening by the Rev. J. M. Sutherland, of North Taiori, Mr James Adam, of Tokomainro, and Mr J. C. Hodges, of Mosgiol ; and sovoral anthums and other selections of sacmrt music wero t stefully rendered by the choir, under the ablo leadership of Mr IX Murray. A presentation was also made to Mr Alexander Chisholm of a handsome clock from the various members' of the congregation in {recognition of his past services as precentor, as well ns a token of their retard, to which Mr Chinholm expressed his thanks in a suitable man nor. A vote of thanks to the speakers was proposod by Mr J-imea Fulton, M.H.U., nlso one to the ladies who supplied the refreshments by Mr Adam After a vote of thanks to the Chairman tho mooting separated, after having passed a very pleasant evening.
