August 22nd. Cato's Mechanic's Vision paid us a visit last Friday aud Saturday, and did a very fair business, lhe proprietor has sustained a severe loss to his show through the death of his two snakes; the roptiles suc-umbing to the severe frost we have lately ex- , perienced. Itie Salvage Company have opened a brancn oi their business here. Tokomairirc* was their last place of call>nd if they do as well here as they ate reported to have done at Toko., they will have no cause to complain. , Although not present at the Stirling Bachelors ball, 1 have heard enough of it from the three ypung Olutha gents, who attended to guarantee it as a success in every way. Excellent niu-ic by Messrs King andAitkc-n; first.class catering l>y Kilgour and Son; effluent M.C.-sVi'ip by Messrs Falconer and Boyd; everyone trying to please everyone else ; and charming young ladies bring'u g all their coynesa and gtaces to try and captivate the eligible young gentlemen. All theßC tended to make the evening enjoyable in every Way. About 144 (young and old) were present. Dancing was kept up till an early hour next The OcUfellows' ball fakes place on Friday evening in Barr'a Hall, when, to ju<l<e from the number of tickets already sold, there will be a crowded house. Two interesting cases are down for hearing at the Resident Magistrate's Court on >v ednesday, 23rd inst. ' Young Sharkey U to be brought up for the robbery from Mr Shand's, and a number of men are to appear to answer a charge of theep-stealing preferred against them by a man namt-d Hewitt. On the same evening the Good Templars' reunion cornea off, which I will make note of in my next contribution.
