GORE.

(from our own correspondent.) August let.

The Ensign proprietary has undergone a change, tho original owner, Mr F. S. Canning, having been bought out by his co-partners for the sum of £1000. I am informed that this sum includes paymet for his solo interest in the firm. Mr Canning start* business as auctioneer, &c. on his own bohalf, and I believe that Mr T. Green will shortly apply for an auctioneer's license to onable him to carry on that branch of the business hitherto conducted by Mr Canning. lam sure thrit all \vi>h the individuals of the late firm every success, yet I cannot help doubting whether five auctioneers can flourish in Gore and Gordon.

The late heavy rains have causnd this part of the country bub trifling loss. The river and its tributaries havo been much swollen, but bunny has been the chief sufferer. An attempt is being made to inaugurate an agricultural and pastoral society for this district, taking Gore for its i entro. Ab is often tho ca*,e in such attempts, local jealousios arc beginning *c- vireepin, but I trust that Buccusg may attend the efforts of those taking the leading part in the movement. The chiuf cause of dissent is whether the shows shall be movable or stationary. If the latter, Gore would moat likely be considered the best centre, and this prospect dooj not pleaae some adjacent district?. A? in auctioneers, so in the medical profesmon. For a long period ono medical gentleman had the sole oversight of our physical ailments; now we are moro than favoured, having three of that profession in our district. The result is that Dr Kveleigh is about »o poU hia lately-acquired property and seek fresh fieldf.
