COURSING
The Bruce Herald records that Mr J. C. Bannatyne has just sustained a serious loss through the shooting of two of his valuable greyhounds— Billiards, who was full brother to the lest Waterloo winner, and a young bitch by Balmoral, out of Queen Death. The dogs were straying in a paddock on Mr S. R. Quartley's fawn, when Mr Quartley, who happened to have a loaded gun with him, shot them both, not knowing whom they belonged t<>, or being aware of their value. Mr Bannatyne entirely acquits his neighbour of any ill-feeling or wrong motive, as he is aware that he has of late sustained serious loss through the ravages of stray dogs among his sheep. Mr Bannatyne ostimated the dogs so highly that he has said that he would not have taken £100 for the two.
