ARREST OF BURGLARs .

Two men suspected of having committed the recont burglary at the Criterion Hotel, Invsreargill, were arrested on the 18th inst. on board the cutter Jane, in Dunedin Harbour. The circumstances of the robbery were as follow:—Mrs S. F. Watson, the lessee of the hotel, closed up the house as usual at about 11.30 p.m. on the 11th inst., and went to bed, all the outer doors of the building being locked. At about 2 a.m. Constable O'Leary and the night-watchman discovered two men — Charles Everitt (aged 22) and Daniel Moore (aged 23) — lying on the sofa in a room off the bar. Tho back door was then open. The men, when accosted, said that they were given permission to sleep there by Mrs Watson. Subsequently, however, a writing-debk fixed inthecornerof the room was found to have been wrenched away and carriedbodily off. Its contents were : banknotes to the amount of £25, £S in silver, seven half-sovereigns, and three cheques for £3 7s, £2 Is, and £3 3s G<l respectively. No trace was found of the men until yesterday, when, from information received, Detectives Henderson and Walker boarded the cutter Jane on her arrival from Southland, and arrested both of them. On being searched, money corresponding to that stolen was found upon the prisoners, Everitt having £14 15s in his possession, and Moore £17 2s 3d,
