In the bleak North with its chill night, , Where, billow^bath never rolled ; ' Where 1 the icebergs gleam with a still light, Like moonbeams dead and cold, '■ 'Frozen and wan. ho human word isspoko— Where is seen, ho human form, Wrapped in his' whirlwind cloak, ' ' Lurks the spirit of the storm, •• • ■ -i-1 Ghastly and grim. ' ' Like dust 'heath his flying wheels, ii!'» The thunders rumble and roll ; . Lightnings, like sparks, flash from (ho heels , ' Of his stqeds ; from Pole to Pole • .Their tramp earth shakes. With his mantle he smites the water, And ocean shudders and moans ; He proclaims in every quarter' '' That the vast' power he owns ■ ' Can mock man's might.
