A MEAN EXPEDIENT.
TO THE ISDJTOR.
Sut, - While passing through Tuapeka West a fow daya ago in company with a settlor, my attention was called to one of tho settlers' wives standing at her gate with a sheaf of wlu at in her hand. A littlo wheat was strewn along tho ground, and some piga close by were being lured to it by the cry of •' Piggio ! pisrgic !" On inquiring the meaning of this I was informed that the piga belonged to one of the neighbours, ami by what I could leani tho intent was to get " Piggio" iribido the gate and then mako out a case of trespass. Now, Sir, this is a bid state of thinga, and I think the sooner the law is brought to bear with a view to stopping it the better. There is an old saying "revenge is awect." but "a clear conscience ia sweeter." Apologising for trespassing on your valuable columns, — I am, &c,
