Melbourne, April 6th. Arrived yesterday evening: Union Co. 'si steamer Te Anau, from the Bluff. The Rev. Mr Green and Captain Oliatfield are passengers for England by the Orient Oo.'s steamer John Elder, which sailed to-day. The Victorian Volunteers commenced their encampment this evening. The weather is now fine, and favourable for the Easter review. Arrangements are being made for the retirement of Mr Elsdon, engineer in charge of Victorian railways and roads, and the appointment of Mr Watson as his successor. .Fears are entertained for the safety of the s.s. Leura, from this port to Sydney. She ia now considerably overdue. April Sth. A telegram has been received reporting that the steamship Leura, for whose safety fears were entertained, has not met with any disaster. The cause of her detention is not stated. April 10th. Sailed, on Saturday afternoon : Union Company's steamship Alhambra, for the Bluff. Mr Elsdon, Engineer-in-chief of the Victorian Railways and Roads Department, retires from office on account of ill-health, and will receive compensation. Melbourne, April 11th A report circulated last night to the effect that a gun had burst at the Queenscliff Battery was not correct. The accident occurred in the following manner:— One of the 40-pounder Armstrongs was fired, when the shell with which it was loaded exploded immediately after leaving the muzzle of the gun. Two civilians who were walking below the cliff were struck by the pieces. One of them is so seriously injured that his recovery is nob expected. Later. ' The man, whose name is Ross, who was so seriously injured by the Queenscliff accident yesterday, died from the effects of his wounds this afternoon. The coach which runs between the city and Lillydale met with an accident this morning. Four persons were injured. Mr Billing has been offered a County .Court judgeship, and has accepted the position. Three hundred and ninety-nine officers find men of the Permanent and Volunteer force are now in camp at the Heads for their annual training. Arrived, this morning: Orient Company's steamship Cuzco, from Plymouth. Adelaide, April 11th. Wheat is now quoted at 5s lOd to 5s lid. Town flour has advanced to £13 15s to £14 per ton, and country brands to £12 15s. Albany, April 11th.

The P. and O. Co's steamship Rohilla arrived at King George's Sound this morning with the inward mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London, March 10th.
