' Mr kartins, the' English player, paid recently a first visit to Galashiels. from Monday till Thursday he was engaged in playing exhibition games daily, from noon till 10p.m. Some 78 games ,were played by him, of Which no won 61, the remaining 14 being drawn. Mr jwyllie, tho champion, pursues his victorious career in America, and by the last advices was still at Detroit. The- Turf mentions that the toughest opponent he has met with is O. H. Freeman, the Providence .champion, who, at River Point, scored one, and drew one, 'out of three games played. Mr Freeman is a man of colour, and acknowledged to be ono ot the strongest players in'the States.
