AUSTRALIAN.

The principal race at the V.A.T.C. Meeting on the 25th ult. was the South Yarra Handicap of 100 soys, which was won with great ease by Mr D. Wallace's Sir Joseph, 4 yrs, Bst lib, beating 13 others. At this meeting, says the Argus, the stewards set an excellent .example in fining an Indian horse-dealer named Mr E. Weeks £10 for using violent and insulting language on the lawn. A few examples of this sort would put a stop to much of the foul language so readily indulged in by many of the horsey and book-making fraternity. Two or three notorious welshers were noticed plying their trade in the paddock, one of whom has been publicly expelled from the paddock at Flemington. It is thought by many that when once a person is expelled from one of the leading racecourses for welshing, the fact should be sufficient to prevent him from entering the stand enclosure of any other racecourse. At Wagga Autumn races the principal handicap was won by Mr Lloyd's four-year-old mare Marchioness. * ' Hyacinth has scored another win, carrying off the Sale Handicap with Bst 111b up. The drawing for the Bagotville Estate, which was arranged by Mr H. Byron Moore for the benefit of the widow and children of the late Mr R. C. Bagot, took place at the Melbourne Exchange, the tickets having been fully subscribed for. The arrangements were simple, and carried out by means of apparatus kindly lent for the purpose by Mr J. J. Miller, of " sweep" celebrity. Mr L. L. Mount officiated as chairman, and Mr T. J. Davey (Davey, Cole, and Flack) and Mr John Roberts acted as scrutineers. The prizes were 50 in number, viz., the first prize valued at £3500, the second valued at £1000, and 48 prizes of £1 Is each. The first of these was the second to come out of the box, and fell to Mr Nathaniel Cohen, of Tamworth, N.S. W., the second going to MiEdward Kennedy of Melbourne. Victorian Tattersalls Club have a cash balance of £075 on the year's transactions. A.J.C. MEETING. Sydney, April sth. .
