CHAMPLAIN AND GEFLANCE WHEAT.
. i, ( , IO THE' EDITOR. i ' Slß,— l think the following extraofi hqm a letter I received re the American wheats is worth inserting. It isfrom the Oamaru! district:— ' J ' ' 'Tne ohamplain and defiance wheats, some ' 'of which I got froiri F~-, will,'l think, prove good." Certainly; th,e defiance— the other, Heing' ' a red yrheslt, is foot so taking; but in addition to its' being rust-pfopf it has tho valuable attribute of being pretty nearly sparrow-proof, owing to its pelng bearded ; and' unless spinething is, done to check the ravages of sparpws and linnets, ordinary wheat will suffer frjghtfully.,' I am 1 sorry to say that', this' season^ has proved very disastrous. I had about 30 acres m Ohamplain wheat, and cut about three or four,' and very little. I got off that— the rest I ploughed up or turned pigs into. There was hardly a spring crop about here worth cutting and' (threshing, and many autumn-sown were not much better.' I enclose pamphlet re the above American apring wheats.— l am, &c, • ! ° . . jOHNj OHN h. Eveby.
