CALEDONIAN V. ,IJALCLUTHA.

The first match between the above Clubs came off on Saturday, on tho Balclutha green. The visiting team left Dunedin by the express, arriving at Balclutha a little after 11 a.m. After partaking of a substantial dinner, provided for them at the Crown Hotel, play commenced about 1 o'clock, finishing in plenty of time to catch the express leaving Balclutha at 3.40. The green, owing to its having been sown down in grass instead of being 1 turfed, was not in good condition, being, rather bare in places. The green with a little care, howover, will be as good as could be desired. A number of ladies visited the ground during the game, and were apparently very much interested. The match was not very exciting. At the first start it was thought the Balclutha team would win, but their No. 1 rink were very weak, and soon succumbed to the play of their oppononts, who won easily by 16 points. • No. 2 rink made a better fight, showing some very good play, and winning by six points. The visiting team thus won by 10 points. Mr W. Watson, the vice-president of the Caledonian Club, proposed the health of the Bajciutlia Club, coupled with the name of their president, Mr Webb, who briefly responded.
