WAIKOUAITI COUNTY RACES.

The above racing club held their second annual race-meeting on the Waikouaiti Becroa-tion-ground on the 23rd. The weather during the forenoon was favourable, but shortly after 3 o'clock a cold wind, accompanied by a heavy shower, camo on, and slightly marred the pleasure of the visitors. Taking all things into consideration, the meeting must be regarded as a very successful one, f or the attendance was large and most of the races well contested. The arrangements were very satisfactory, and • in this respect the committee and the secretaiy (Mr Gill) are to be congratulated. Of course there was the usual contingent of " little-game" men, who, in common with the general public, seemed to be duly impressed with the consequences that would follow an infringement of the Gaming and Lotteries Act j consequently nothing in the shape of " sweeps " took place. The Hack Race also fell to the lot of Noah, . but a protest was entered against him on tho ■ ground that he was a trained horse.
