KAIHIKU.
(FROM OUR OWN OORRBSPONDBNT.) March 14th.
There is little or nothing of interest to chronicle from this district. Harvesting is all the talk. Moßt of the farmers on a small scale have finished cutting, and have commenced ingathering; but on the large estates harvest seems to be at its height. Wheat is somewhat backward in ripening ; rust has attacked it in several parts. From its appearance, I think it will be a poor spec, this year. Threshing out of tho stook is to be started this week at Albert Downs Station. I don't think that there is any profit in doing so, aB there is more time lost in this operation than by stacking it first and then threshing. Swagsmon are scarce this season. The new church was to have been opened about a week ago, but a meeting of the Building Committee was held, and the opening was postponed until the 3rd April. r
Great danger of fire Is experienced from the railway engine, which at times has the line for about a mile in flames, and the crops adjoining aro in danger or being destroyod by the conflagrations. Ilardmg and Co.'s fnllmongery recently narrowly escaped being demolished from this cause. I think it would bo desirable for tho proprietors to clear away the tussocks which surround the buildings, for foar it may come to this in the end.
