Meander was the first to make play, closely followed by Blink Bonny, Queen, Sheet Anchor, Napper Tandy, arid Stockwell beiug last. At the stables Blink Bonny had assumed the' leadership, Meander and Sheet Anchor being her nearest attendants ; but the mare did not maintain the pride Of place long, as sho swerved and ran inside a post and was pulled up. Stockwell had by , this time given the go-by to Napper Tandy, and the order in which they filed past the stand was as follows : — Meander, Sheet Anchor, Queen, Stockwell, and Napper last. After passing the site of the old stand, however, Stockwell had gone up first, while Meander fell back, and The Queen shortly after took second place, and Napper and Sheet Anchor wore well up. At the back of the courso the? leaders' positions were not altered, and tho only alteration in the remaining pair was that Napper had gone up fourth, Sheet Anchor being absolutely last. Going round to the stables Stockwell had a clear lead of a couple of lengths, The Queen still running second, Meander third, and Napper fourth. At the turn for home a fine race ensued between the leading pair, and, coming into the straight, the son of St. Albans was still leading, The Queen having failed to catch him, and she gave place to Napper, who came with a rush, but could not catch Stockwell. Hales landed the colt a very easy winner by about a length and a-half , ' about a iength separating Nappor and Queen, who was third. Meander, who ran inside a post with Blink Bonny, two lengths off, was fourth, and Sheet Anchor was last. Time, 3 mm. 16 sec.

Betting: Even Stockwoll, 5 to 4 Napper Tandy, C to 4 agat Sunsot, 4 to 1 Meander. 1 An excellent start was effected, the seven 'getting away well together. Sunset was at once taken to the front, with Blink Bonny as his immediate follower. Hounding the turn Sunset still led, but Blink Bonny shortly after bolted, Stockwell having gone up second, with Napper Tandy third, Meander fourth, Ijlight1 mare fifth, and Sheet Anchor absolutely last. At the back of the course, Sunset still, led, although' Stockwell' wa^ close on his quarter, the others, with the exception of Sheet Anchor, all in a cluster. Stockwell, however, when passing the old stable, went up and challenged the leader, and passed ''hap.; 'and Napper Tandy, who had all along been lying third, set sail to catch the leading pair^ and at" the turn for home had caught them, and from there .to the winning-post a grand race ensued between the three, Napper' winning a good race by a neck, Sunset coming again, and defeating Stockwell by' half a 1 length for second place, Nightmare fourth^ 1 Meander' fifth, $nd Sheet Anchor last.
