Tho series has opened without chango, and generally on the level of last sales prices Compared with a year ago present rates may be quoted 2J per cent, higher. Trade in Germany is good, and buyers from that quarter will support the market. Trade in the French manufacturing districts is quiet. Stocks everywhere are moderate.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following telegram from their London office, dated February l ißth* -

The British and Now Zealand Mortgage and Agency Company (Limited) have received the following teletfram from Messrs Helmuth Schwartze and Co., London, dated 28th February:— "The sales opened with large attendance of both Home and foreign buyers. Competition is animated. Prices are equal to closing of last series. Our first tale will be held on Ist March." «„«„„ A telegram from Reefton states that the Golden Treasure Companj's return for the month was 2440z of smelted gold from 166 tons of ptono. A dividend of Cd per 24,000 th share was declared.
