MINING INTELLIGENCE.

A meeting of the promoters of the Deep Valley Reef West Claim, Serpentine, was held in Golder's Central Hotel on Wednesday evening. There was a good attendance, and Mr W. M. Hodgkins occupiedthe chair. A committee was appointed to take preliminary steps Lo form a company to work the claim. Aii extraordinary meeting of the shareholders in the Zealandia Quartz-mining Company's (Limited) claim, Hindon, was held in Mr J. i . Watson's office on Wednesday afternoon. The following gentlemen|were elected in place of the retiring directors :— Messrs W. Lovell (Hindon), John Mariott (Hindon). Joseph Harris (BlueSpur),and John Waters (Blue Spur). A meeting of the directors was afterwards held, when a tender was accepted for extending the main tunnel 100 feet in order to follow up the line of reef to strike that portion where the stone was obtained which yielded such a good return at the trial crushing. This will give 150 feet of "backs "in the heart of the hill, and it ia firmly believed that the prospects of the Company are exceedingly promising.

New Rush.

Hokitika, March Bth.

Gold was struck yesterday by Heron and party on a flat above the Woodstock, on the south of the Hokitika River— sinking, 50ft: depth of waahdh't, 3ft to 4ft. It is estimated to yield five pennyweights to the load. Several shafts are going down, and a good many claims are pegged out. The flat, though in the immediate vicinity of the terrace workings close to the river, has been untried, and is of considerable extent, it is believed. There was some excitement in town to-day on the news being reoeived.,

Warden Giles visited the ground rushed at Woodstock, and a prospect of one dish was washed out in his presence, which gave from three to four grains of gold. Several other dishes were subsequently washed by miners, giving a similar result. A large number of claims have been pegged out, and a dozen business sites have been marked off already. The prospectors will commence opening out their claim to-morrow.

It will take another fortnight before any approximate idea can bo formed as to the extent of auriferous ground.
