A meeting of tho Hooper's Inlet School Committee was held lust WcdneMlay.night, when it was c|ccided that a , deputation wait on the Education Board to support the Committee's request for a sum of money to procure and erect seveial' ne.cessar3 v adjuncts to the school. ' J A movement is being made by some of tho old volunteers here to, bring their claims before the Commissioners for balan.ee of the laud scrip due to them, and of which they were deprived several years ago by the Provincial Council.

I am glad to be able to. congratulate the congregation of the Portobello Road' Church on the healthy state of their finances. I see (vide Times, 3rd inst) they havo raised the sum of £180 12s 6d for the bustentition fund, which, added to the amounts raised here and in Nbtth-Eist Harbour, say £C oin each place, will make the total amount £300, a sum which is considerably above that required to make the charge self-supporting, and the balance of which will be available to help other congregations. This is a good sign of the times, I suppose. And Portobello in having a surplus will only be repaying what has been received by the distriot in times past from the sustentation fund.
