When lawyers fail to take a fee, And juries never disagree ; When politicians are content, And landlord's don't collect their rent ; When Boston folks give up their beans ; When parties smash all the machines ; When naughty children all die young. And girls are born without a tongue ; When ladles don't take tima to hop ; And office-holders never flop ; When preachers cut their sermons short, And all the folks to church resort ; When back subscribers all have paid, And editors have fortunes made ; Such happenings will sure portend This world must soon come to an end. — Yonkers Gazette.
