During the evening Superintendent Whiteford (president of the United Fire Brigades Association) made a presentation of the Association's Maltese cross to 1 oreman Kobb, in recognition of his action on the occasion of the Cumberland street tragedy. The cross was designed by Captain Lightfoot, of the Nelson Brigade, and executed h Mr A. Hunter, of that city. It consists of a Maltese cross m frosted silver, on which is a plain silver circle bearing the words "United Fire Brigades' Association, New Zealand » and in .the centre of the cross is the name " John Robb. Inore are two silver clasps, on one of which are tlie words " For Valour." . , The circumstances under which Foreman Robb acted will bo well remembered, for tho discovery of tho foul and cowardly murder of the Dewar family was solely duo to the prompt and manly way in which he acted.
