REGISTRATION OF BIRTHS, &C

TO TUB EDITOR.

Sra,— lt does not appear to be generally known that registration of a birth or death may be effected by persons at a distance from a registration office with very little trouble, and without loss of time. By writing to the registrar of the district, they may obtain a " guide lor registering a birth or death." This form they fill up, and give or send the same to Borne pereon who can conveniently attend at the registrar's office, and act as their agent in signing the register-book. I notice by your Kaitangata correspondent's letter of last week that -Mr W. M. Shore jnade a neat little speech on the supposed grievance of the want of a registration office. Advantage might be taken of the above arrangement until they obtain One. Your "own" devotes a paragraph to the reason why all attempts had been hitherto unsuccessful* and adds that "Mr Shore read several documents which explained the failure of their last petition." "The Minister of Justice sent it to the registrar at Stirling, and of course he reported, as might have been expected, that such an office was not required." Jf the Minister of Justice sent it to the registrar at Stirling, I am quite certain that the registrar at Stirling never received it, or any official notice of it. I am also quite certain that the registrar at Stirling never reported for or against such an office, as he was not required to do so.— l am, &c,

J. H'Neur, Registrar.

Stirling, February 14tb.
