GORE. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) January l6th.

Tho festive season has come and gone, and eft us to pursue the even tenor of our way. Everyone appears to have settled down to the stern realities of every-day existence. 1 hear that Mr Latham's tender for the erection of our much-needed courthouse and police buildings has been accepted. As yet, however, the tenderer has not yet had official notice as lo which of the plans the Depart ment lias resolved to adopt. Tt is to bo hoped that no further hitch* Avill now occur to delay the erection of such a very necessary work.

Mr Brett, at present manager of this branch of the Colonial Bank, has resigned his position with the object of entering business in East Gore. This gentleman, in conjunction with Mr Hunter, has leased the promises until now occupied by Messrs Smaill and Brown, and they intend carrying on business as general merchants, &c. In Mr Brottthe Colonial has lost an officer who was generally and deservedly respected. - Mr Officer has been appointed temporarily to the mastership of the Chatton school, ren-

dered vacant by the resignation of Mr A. B» Tuson. The Gore school has reopened, after a. fortnight's holiday, with a very fair attendance.

The total cost of the Gore Presbyterian Church, with extras, is about £630. Only about £60 of debt remains on this building, a, fact which is alike creditable to the energy of the Committee and the liberality of the people. The crops are looking fairly well. The weather is windy m the extreme, and what rain falls is speedily absorbed by the drought which invariably follows. •
