When summer, like a fairy queen, Her vernal robe assuming, ' With fragrance frae the freckled be&n. The zephyr is perfuming ; To silvan dell I winna name, That elfin lovers roam in, To meet wi' bonnie Mirren Graham I hie me in the gloamin* ; To meet me there, my Mirren fair Is comin' in the gloamin' ! J I've wood and sou'cht her for my bride, By Levern's limpid river ; This night she's promised to decide Her lover's fate for ever. The tear that gem'd her rosy cheek Portends a happy omen— O ! blissful words my love shall speak This evening in the gloamin'— O I melting words, wi' singing birds, Responsive in the gloamin'. Again the smiling year comes round, Wi' bird, wi' bud, an' blossom ; And bonnie Mirren may by found The partner 0' my bosom. The witchin 1 fairy sealed my fate, Nae mair am I found roamin', For love on me does fondly wait, To cheer me in the gloamin' — • My bonnie wife she's noo for life, An' meets me ilka gloamin'.
