ANNUAL REPORT.
The Committee of Management reported that tho receipts for the past year, including a balance from 1879 of £17 3a 6d, amounted to £399 18a, exclusive of the special prizes for the show, which amounted to £65 15s, and for the ploughing match £10. The total amount of the receipts was £476 13s 6d. The expenditure only amounted to £451 18s 9d, leaving a credit balance of £23 14s 9d.
The annual show, which ivas held atlMosgiel on the 28th December, 1880, was in every way a success, though the entries were not so numerous as in tho previous year. This was attributed to tho falling-off in the entries for sheep, and to there being no double ontries. The entries received for tho show in 1879 were 433, of which 36 were double entries, the number of exhibits being 397 ; whilst last year there were only 371 exhibits.
The ploughing match, which was a fairly successful affair, was held on the farm of Mr Peter Grant, Gowrie. The weather was unpropitioua. The subscriptions collected for the match amounted to £21 3s 6d ; for entries £5 was received, and for the booth £2 ; and £25 was expended in prizes. Messrs John Allan, David Grant, James Aifcken, and James Gow were the retiring members of the Committee.
The Committee recommended that Mr John Andrew should be elected President of the Association, and Mr John Pindlay Vice-president, for the ensuing 12 months.
Much regret was expressed at the resignation of Mr Malcolm Carmichael as a member of the Committee, and of Mr Samuel Young as treasurer.
The Committee appointed at the last annual meeting to arrange for the holding of meetings for the discussion of agricultural topics reported that the County Council had very generously granted them the use of the Council Chambers for the purpose of holding their meetinga. The opening address in connection with the movement was delivered by Mr Donald Reid. Some good resulta had already omanated from their discussions. At the second of the series the question of the small-bird nuisance waa considered, and the result was that the subject was taken by the Committee of Management, and a quantity of poisoned grain was provided for distribution amongst the farmers.— The report was adopted.
