The property tax ia to be £d for the first half-year, and £1 for the tecoud— or fd in all. Had not the Property Assessment Amendment Bill passed, the full Id would have been levied aa laat year. The following ia the text of the operative clauses of the new bill :— 1, For the six months commencing on the Ist day of April, 1881, there shall be charged, levied, collected, and paid over for the use of her Majesty, the several duties hereinafter mentioned— that is to say : For and in respect of all property, for every 203 of value thereof, the duty of $d ; for and in respect of all fire, marine, or guarantee policies issued by any insurance company, for every LIOO of premium received by the company in the said six months in respect of Buch policies, the duty of 15s ; and Buch duties shall be paid on such day as the Governot-in-Council shall appoint.

2. For the six months commencing on the Ist day of October, 1881, there shall bo charged, levied, collected, and paid for the use of her Majesty the several duties hereinafter mentioned—that ia to say : For and in respect of all property, of value for every 2(h thereof, the duty of £d ; for and in respect of all fire, marine, or guarantee policies issued by any inaurauce company, for evoiy LIOO of premiums received by &uch company in the said cix months in respect of such policies, the duty of 7a 6cl ; and such duties shall be paid on such day aa the Gover nor-in-Council shall appoint.
