(from ode own cobeespondent.) September 11 lh. The Tapanui Young Men's Christian Association celebrated the opening of their new room by a soiree on Thureday evening last. The affair was an unqualified success,- their being a very largo attendance. An excellent programme was provided and fully '^appreciated by an attentive audience. Tho eatablea were gratuitously FuppHed by thn ladies of Tapanni and surrounding die' ric:s. I V'e havo had one or two wintry days this 1 week, but the weather is once more all that
could be desired. A considerable quantity of grain haa already been sown, and with a favourable spring we may expect to see an early harvest. \ - The railway works are progressing steadily. Cattle stops have been placed atthe Kelso^crossing, while on large posts in olose proximity ia blazoned the Imperial command, " Stop ! Look out for the Engine." Just exactly what' we have been doing for the last two years, and in all probability we will have to stop a "wee whilie" yet ere we will be honoured by a visit from the Iron Horse,
