AGRICULTURAL NOTES.
There are seven candidates for the two scholarships in connection with the Canterbury School of Agriculture. Two of these are from Nelson, two from Otago, and three from Canterbury . It will be seen by advertisement elsewhere that a private agricultural college is in course of formation at Rothesay, in the vicinity of Dunedin, by the Rev Mr Jenner, a gentleman who graduated in the best agricultural schools in England, and who ia prepared to impart a thorough knowledge of all matters connected with the farm, both theoretical and practical. Mr Jenner also announces his willingness to deliver a series of lectures to classes on agriculture, botany, &c. ' Would it not come within the province of some of our provincial Agricultural Societies ■to arrange with Mr Jenner for the delivery of either weekly or monthly lectures ? Each lecture might be delivered at different centres,, so that the travelling expenses might be kept within reasonable bounda. Considerable benefit would no doubt be reaped by the young men from such a course, and we think the matter is well worthy of consideration by the Societies, whose operations might with advantage be extended to matters .outside of those connected with the local shows.
