CONCERT AT WEST TAIERI.

A concert, in aid of the school harmonium fund, took place on Friday night i (writes our correspondent) in the Outram Hall, which was crowded in every part. I have on several occasions been present at high-class entertainments given under the auspices of the Outram School Committee, but the rich treat presented to us on Friday night was a very enjoyable one, and savage indeed must have_ been the breast that was not susceptible to its soothing influence; In addition to several good local amateurs Mrs Angus and_ Mr Iveson, from Duuedin, placed their services at the disposal of the Committee, the former making her first, but I sincerely hope not her last, bow to a West Taieri audience. The programme was a very good one indeed, and met with very warm approval. Amongst the most noticeable items in the first part were the pianoforte daet by Mrs D. A. Murray and MrKneen, "The Festival March;" Beleotions from "Maritana" for piano and cornet, by Mrs Murray and Mr O'Meara ; and a pianoforte solo, selections from " Martha," by Mrs Murray, in which she exhibited great brilliancy of execution and delicacy of touch. Mr Lloyd sang " The Diver " very creditably, as did Mr Murray "Every Billet." Miss Christie and Miss Reeves also sang well. Mr Iveson had a narrow escape from an encore on singing " Once again." He has established himself as a favourite here. Mrs Angus sang "One summer's eve," acid being enthusiastically encored, "The dear little shamrock," which brought down the house and almost necessitated her reappearance. In the sf cond part, a pianoforte duet by Misses Kirkland and Waddell was the first morceau, and was very tastefully, played ; but surely it showed a want of courtesy in some of the gentlemen present to leave those young ladies to turn over their own music. Mr Iveson's " Glorious Vintage" was artistically rendered • aa was " The Sexton," by our old favourite Mr Harper, who, however, seemed to suffer from a cold, and was not in suoh good voice as I have heard him. A very pretty song, " I've flowers to sell," naturally and tastefully sung by Miss Reeves, and beautifully accompanied by Mrs Reeres, was warmly received, as was also a pianoforte duet by Mra Murray and Mr KnaeD. Mr Murray was encored for "The Rhine Wine," with cornet accompaniment by Mr O'Meara. The gsm of this part of the concert, and perhaps of tho evening, was " I cannot leave the old folks," by Mrs Angus, which was rapturously applauded. A pretty duet by the Misses Christie, a comic song by Mr Hescott, and the National Anthem by the company, brought the concert to a close. Mr Towsey and Mr Watson, from Dunedin, were to have appeared, but failed to do so, whioh caused some of the other performers to be rather severely taxed, especially Mrs Angus, but they yielded to circumstances with a good grace.
