The flags of the vessols in port was displayed halfmast high on Monday, in respect to the memory of the Captain Peter Pietersen, formerly commander of the s.s. Beautiful Star, and for the last three years master of the Union Company's steamer Taiaroa. The deceased gentleman was highly esteemed by all who knew him.

The Albion Company's ship Invercargill, from London for Otago, was off the Isle of Wight on May 12th. The approximate value of property lost was £510,000, including British, £400,000.
