COMPLETION OF THE WAIMEA PLAIN RA ILWAY.
Elbow, May 24th. The Waiinea Plains lino of railway was today completed. A train ran through from G-oro to Lumsden, leaving Gore at 10.35, and carrying a numbor of G>?re rssidents and visitors. The last rail was laid at 1.30, about two unless from Rxversdale and n lv.ilo from tli6 town of Dudley, uoon the property of Judge Ward, by Mr E. W. Fulton, together with Mr Whitteker, the contractor. Mr Fulton, in a few well-choi-en remarks, spoke of the ori«iu and progress of the line, which he characterised as the through line from Auibej'ley to Kingston. He abo commented on the partial public feeling «'igairißt the railway, aud stated it was simply a matter of time when it would stand unrivalled in the district as the main line from Amberley to Kingston, vntb. its branch lines to Invercargill and tno Bluff. Ho spoke in very high terms of tho contractor, Mr WhiUoker, and expressed his regret at Messrs J. W. Bain and Higginson's absence. The train arrived at Lurasden at 2 15, and departed at 4 p.m.
