THORNS AND ROSES.
By Maydbw. A sweet littl* 1 fee,f *cc, all dimples and smiles, A nd fair little fingers, clasping a rose ; " Jamie, the thorns -they have pierced my hand !" And swiftly the crystal torrent flaws. Jamie, with eager and hoyish grace, Kisses tha hand where The red mark shows, Then carefully prunes all tha thorns from the stem, Leaving, unaltered, the boautiful rose. " Look, little Mabel ! thfl thorns are gone ; Only the beautiful flowers remain. Kits rue but once, then kiss me again, And think no more of the scratch and piin." Softly she kisses his emilinp face ; Say, can you guets what the future shows? Only his hand with a tender grace, Pruning, through life, all thorns from her rose.
