CUSTOMS REVENUE. Tho following revenue was received at the Custom house, Dunediu, during the week ending January 11th :— £ a. d. Thursday 282G 10 10 Friday 14W 19 7 Saturday 238 11 0 Monday 122} 11 8 Tueiday .. .. •• 984 Wednesday l"0 17 \ Total .. .. £7790 15 2 THiC'WKKK'S BUSINESS. WITIfKSS OFFIOB, Wednesday Evening. What business has been done during the week has been confined to small items, many of which it is now found are running down m stock to a considerable extent. Among these lines may bo mentioned soda crystals, cream of tartar, tavtaric acid, sardines, and many others, all of which are inquired for, buyers having to pay full prices In dried fruits there is a movement, and holders are beginning to realise the true state of affairs, namely, that these goods cannot now be landed at anything like the figures of but a few weeks ago. One firm has bought up all that were to bo had, even at advanced prices, and the following may now be considered quotations :— Currants, 5;Jd to Cd ; elemes, 7d to 74d • sultanas, 7£d to Bd. Advices from Home state that France is likely to require all the surplus stock in the English markets. Ales and stouts hang fire ; Foster s ale is in very heavy supply, one firm holding several hundred cases. M'Ewan's is dull at former prices, and the same may be said of Tcnnent's. Stout by the latter brewers is finding favour, the agents appearing inclined to meet buyers. Guinness' by the first bottlers is in slijrht demand. We quote Guinness' by Burke, lls 3d -by Johnson, Us; Bulldog, 10s Gd ; Tennent's, 10s. Spirits generally are quiet— an important feature in these dull times— whiskies especially being little inquired for. Brandy is being advanced in price by some firms, present values bcintr : Hennessy's, lls to lls Gd • A V C 8s; Dessandier's, Ss; geneva is reported as dearer Sugar is not bo eagerly inquired for in view of expected arrivals. Prices, however, do not alter, and £38 10s to £39 is asked for best yellows, which are scarce ; and £42 to £42 10s for best whites. Low box teas are very scarce, and almost confined to one holder: as there are none in the neighbouring markets we do not think present stocks will see us through'tho season. Other kinds are not much sought after. Galvanised iron and fencing wire are maintaining a firm advance, the former at £30 to £32 ; the

lattor is now quoted at £18 10s for No. 8, but there will be little selling during harvest. Oils are running short, and may be quoted 4s 3d to 4s 6d for raw and boiled respectively ; colza, 4s 9d to 6s. White lead is scarce at £38 for genuine. Castor oil is well out of first hands, and 4s 9d is the generally -accepted price. Cornsacks are enjoying a good run, and some excitement may be said to prevail. In the early p^art of the week there were large sales at 8s 6d for this month's delivery, but that money would not now find a seller, and we fully believe that before we next have to report 9s will be the established price. Woolpacks aro out of season, but 3s to 3s 3d is asked and obtained for the few that are now required. We hear of a very large order from ono importer now on tho way to Calcutta to anticipate what we are assurod is still a rising market.
