REMOVAL OF GRAVEL AT WAIHOLA, | The Board considered the letter of Messrs I Finlay, Paterson, and Hilgendorf as to the removal of gravel at Waihola Place ; also, the petition from the Road Board and settlers requesting that they be allowed to continue using the gravel. The Chairman stated that with regard to this matter he was met by a deputation at Waihola, when going up country lately, and on their representations then made he had written a notice stating that any person taking gravel from Waihola Place would be prosecuted, and he had also notified the police thereon. There appeared to be some dispute with the Road Board and other interested parties. Mr Clark said he had seen the place where the gravel was being taken, and he doubted whether the Board could interfere. When the Board firßt gave notice the cirting was stopped, but it was commenoed again on the 4th inst. Mr Hilgendorf (representing the objectors) explained that the contractors for the '

Brighton road were taking the gravel at high- water mark, instead of at low- water. They had taken 16 Inches in this way, and the consequence was that the water flowed over the road. Mr J. 0. Bannatyne (who represented the Road Board) said that Waihola Place was a roadline according to the map. It was, moreover, the best place to obtain gravel for the settlers in the neighbourhood, and the removal did no harm. Considerable discussion followed as to whether Waihola Place was a reserve or continuation of a roadline, when it was resolved that the matter be referred to the Chief Commissioner to take action to stop the removal of the gravel, if the land marked as Waihola Place on the map is in the position of Crown lands. KUROW. Application was made by Messrs Connell and Moodie, on behalf of Mr W. J. Gain, for 50 acres adjoining section 7, blook V, Kurow district, with report as to the nature of the land.
