VICTORIA.
The German Rerf tributers, Maldon, finished crushing 11 tons for tho sploudid yield of 101 oz gold. A company towoik tho Stockyard lead at Ohiltern Lao 'been formed with £lf> 000 capital. At present the compnny is engaged boring for fcho deep ground. Three bores have already bottomed at aboub 213 feet, with gold and. Borao three fcefc of wnsh dirt. The distance bntwoen fcho three boivs ia nbout 100 foet. A fnrthpr bore i* now being put down 80 feet from tbe others.
Matters continue exactly as they wore (remarks the Pleasatit Creek Now*) in connection •with tho now rush on the Wildcat hill. Thoro are not mauy who look forward to tho disoovery proving of much importance, and most of the oUima are being shepherded until the prospeotors have furnished a little napre information as
to the ran of gold. Many who hastened to the spot with tho idea that a new lead had been found, have since left it believing it to be of no value. The week's yield at Sandhurst last recorded was over 3000 oz, and the dividends declare daring the period amounted to £6551 as against £1600 called up by four companies. At Ballarafc the Argua correspondent writes that the crushing of the Washington Freehold Company gave an average yield of loz 16dwt per ton for 180 tons of stone, from a nriae ia which a few months ago ohe shares were hawked about tho market, and sold at from 6d to Is eich, now eagerly sought for at 48s each, aud the mine is now reported to b8 looking as well ag ever. Another item is the discovery at the No. 7 shaft of the Band and Albion- Consols mine, of immensely rich stone — richer, it ia said, than anything yet seen in the mine. _ A fourth ia the reported discovery of some rich stone in the eastern portioa of the Now Koh moor mine ; and there is the production of some good looking stove from the western shaft of the Sir Garnet Wolaeley mine, resembling very much the rich stone ia the Bund and Albion mine, with one great exception. — uo gold is visible in it. Howevor, the character of the quartz ia «Jecidedly auriferous, being strongly mineralised, and it is expected to lead to gold, as it is taken from a dapth of 62 feet only from the surface. Other reports, also very favourable, but of minor importance, have come from other mines ; and we are once more fermenting ■with excitement. Claims continue to be taken. up iv all directions, and if anyone says that any of these are not "on tho line " he gets laughed at for his pains, and is at once told that Ballarafc is all lines together, a statement in which there is a great deal of truth ; and we all marvel now that so much vast wealth should have remained undiscovered for so many years. From the alluvial districts of Kingston and Oreawick, the news is as satisfactory as anyone can wiah, and from all the outlying districts we htve very favourable reports.
SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
What ia likely to prove a valuable discovery has (report 3 the South Australian Advertiser) been made in the vicinity of Nairne, in the shape of a silver bearing roof. A piece of the cap of the reef haa beoa assayed, and yielded 2oz 6dwt 16gr to tho tou. This piece was tikon only 18in from the surface. Tho reef itself ia strong aud well defined, and cornea nearly to the surface. At the place where it has been opeued it is about 2ft through, and runs north-east by south-west. Several specimens having the appearance of copper have been fouud us well, which leads to the supposition that that metal is also to be obtained ia the neighbourhood.
