SUPREME COURT.-IN BANKRUPTCY.

Monday, Bth December. (Before Mr Registrar Gordon.) BE THOMAS BEDPOaD CAMEBON. Motion for order of discharge. Mr Lewis appeared for the debtor ; and the application being unopposed, it was granted. BE H. W. SMITHIES AND E. K. BMT.THIES. Motions for orders of discharge. Mr Sinclair for tbe debtors. Orders of discharge granted. BE WM. FINOH. Motion for order of discharge. Mr Adams for the debtor. Application granted. ADJODBNMENT3. The following motions were adjourned until Monday, tho 15th inst. :— E$ James Gray, for order of discharge (Mr Callan for debtor) j re Charles Gifford Moore and James Lees, motions for orders of discharge (Mr Kettle for debtors) ; and re Donald M'Donald, motion for declaration of complete execution of deed (Mr Callan for debtor). This was all the business. The political canvassing in view of a probable general election continues. The principal members of the Cabinet, except Lord Beaconsfield, and the principal Opposition members have already spoken in the various parts of the country, and are now being followed by minor personages of both sides. Most of the Liberal speeches are confined to attacks upon the Foreign policy of Government, but do not clearly indicate any alternative policy. Lord Hartington's declaration is regarded as somewhat vague. Messrs Fawcett and Brasaey are the only Liberal members who ; whilst condemning the Government policy in Afghanistan, have admitted that what has been done would not be reversed. Mr Brassey said a continuation of the system was necessary in the external action of the country. Mr Chamberlain, however, at the same meeting, declared that advanced Liberals considered this a dangerous proposition, from which they must entirely dissent. The programme of the Home measures has not been promulgated by any Liberal member, nor any definite declaration of policy in Ireland. Mr Fawcett is the only one who has spoken decidedly on the Irish question.

The Union Company's steamer Waitaki Bailed on Monday afternoon with cargo and passengers for Northern ports, I The Union Company's steamer Aravrata, from Melbourne, via Hobart Town and the Blnff, with over 60 pnpgoogers and 100 tons of cargo for Dunedin, arrived at Port Chalmers at 11.15 a.m on Tuesday. One feature of the laßt eruption of Kilauea, the remarkable volcano in tbe Sandwich Islands, Is the fact that tbe gre»t molten lake of lava, [occupying a huge cauldron nearly a mile In width, and known as the " South Lake," was drawn off subterraueouily, giving no warning of its movements and leaving no visible indication of its pathway or the place of its final deposit. The old process of replenishment which had gone on since the last eruption in 1863 is reported to have begun again, andafttr another decade another disgorgemenc may take place. The iron ship Philosopher, from Calcutta to Boston, has foundered. All hands and a cargo valued at 200,0C0d0l were lott. The Union Company's s.s. Hawea arrived at Port Chalmers at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. She experienced fine weather during the run from Auckland to Napier, and after leaving that port encountered strong head winds until «he reached Wellington. Strong southerly winds marked the run from Wellington to Lyttelton; thence she had fresh fair winds to arrival. Early on the morning of the 6th of December newa reached Port Coalmen that several square-rigged vesiels wer* off the Ocean Beach, and it was at once conjectured that the first to arrive would be the Albion Shipping Company'e clipper ship Dunedin, under the command of our old friend Captain Whit* son. This proved to be correct, for at 5 p.m. she w«9 brought up to an anchorage off the Bailway Pier, in tow of the p.s. Koputai. She was promptly boarded by the Health and Immigration Officers, together with the medical efficer of tho Local Health Board, Dr J. Urysdale, and everything on board the vessel being found correct, she was at once cleared in. A second Home ship reached Port Chalmers on Saturday, December 6th, in. the shape of tat New Zealand Shipping Company's Wanganui, from London, after an excellent passage of 84 day* from port to port, and 81 daya from laud to land. CapUin Watt, of the Wanganui, reports that on September 21st he sighted a vessel under French colours miking ifgiala of distress. A boat w«s lowered away, and Mr Bone, the chief officer, boarded the vessel, which proved to be the barque Marie AifrU, from Lagos to Marseilles, nine months out. Her foremast was sprung, and altogether she was in a most pitiable condition. Her crew were nearly starved to death, and, of course, unable to work, the captain informing Mr Bone that they had been short of food for three months, and for seven weeks they had only been able to get a biscuit and s-half a day. An ample supply of provisions was at once sent on board, and every aasistince given to them.

There is no material change in prices, which closed on an average equal to the opening rates of the season." DUNEDIN LABOUR MARKET. December 10th, 1379. Mr Skbnb reports the market as stocked to overflowing. With the late large arrivals from Home, it will be hard lines with some of them. Of course, those well up to farming, stations, dairy, &c , will soon get placed. Female* are plentiful, but they are easily settled down. Tradesmen of all kinds are very quiet. It would be a blessing if buildings would set agoing. Hotels will im rove when the holidays come round. Sheep stations were too easily supplied this season, as so many swaggers' were tramping the country. Wages continue without variation, but they are s good deal back from last year. MINING NOTES.
