R., Chetham Strode, Eeq., R.M., and J.Fulton, Esq., J.P., resigned. M'Leod Brothers, of Dunedin, have applied to register a trademark for their sperm caudles, under the title of " Adamantine." " The Zealandia Chemical Company's Extra Superfine Sperm Candles." James Lindsay has been appointed captain of the Oamaru North School Cadets. The resignatioDS of thfv commissions held by Lieutenant Charles B. Kingswell and SecondLieutenant Arthur W. Stock in the B Battery of Artillery have been accepted. A money-order and savings bank office have been opened at Owake. The estates of 16 deceased persons were placed under the charge of the Public Trustee for management during tbe month of November. The value of the estates ranged from L 5 to Ll5O. _________ ! _ At a post-mortem examination recently made in a lunatic asylum in Saxony a needle was found sticking in the heart. It had passed throughthe posterior wall of the left ventricle. The patient, a mam aged 25, had died of peritonitis. He had always felt well previous to his last illness, and never complained of any cardiac troubles. In what way the needle entered his heart remains unknown.
