Tuesday, 9th December, rating act amendment. The Rating Act Amendment Bill was read a second time. THIRD READINGS. The Auckland Loans Consolidation Bill, the Harboura Act Amendment Bill, and the Otago Roads Ordinance Amendment Bill were read a third time. MINING COMPANIES. On the motion for the second reading of the Mining Companies Act Amendment Bill, the debate was adjourned for a fortnight, on tbe plea that the measure was too important to be dealt with so late in the session. This is equivalent to shelving the bill. COMMITTEE. The whole of the evening Bitting of Council was in Committee on the Lands Act Amendm«nd Bill, Many amendments were made in
measura, the most important being that the clause allowing optional residence by deferredpayment selectors was struck out, after an hour's <?ebate, by 16 to 5.
Wednesday, 10th December. Evening Sitting. bills. The second readings of the Ashburton County Council Waterworks Bill and Kaitangata and Wangaloa Athonseum Reserves Bill were carried. The third readings of the Rating Act, 1876, Amendment Bill, Awatere Shearing Reserve Bill, Owhiro Grants Empowering Bill, Land Tax Collection Bill, and Debtors and Creditors Act Amendment were adjourned.
